چکیده
Multimodal Management Of Acute Pain: The Role of IV NSAIDs A cute pain is common in hospitalized patients, particularly in postoperative patients. In fact, postoperative pain often is undertreated and is associated with poor outcomes, higher costs of care, poor patient satisfaction, and an increased risk for developing chronic pain syndromes. The failure to treat postoperative pain adequately is at least in part due to the reliance on monotherapy with opioid analgesics.1 Fortunately, the increasing use of multimodal analgesia is resulting in improved pain control for postoperative patients. This monograph discusses the concept of multimodal analgesia and preemptive analgesia and presents new data concerning IV nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and how they can be used to treat acute pain effectively in hospitalized patients.

Role of COX-2 inhibitors in the evolution of acute pain management.
Management of acute postoperative pain remains suboptimal: nearly 80% of patients report moderate to extreme pain following surgery. New pain management paradigms incorporate multimodal analgesia, using a combination of analgesics throughout the perioperative period to control nociceptive and centrally-stimulated pain. Nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have a role in po...
متن کاملThe role of multimodal analgesia in pain management after ambulatory surgery.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW As outpatient (day-case) surgery had continued to grow throughout the world, many more complex and potentially painful procedures are being routinely performed in the ambulatory setting. Opioid analgesics, once considered the standard approach to preventing acute postoperative pain, are being replaced by a combination of nonopioid analgesic drugs with diverse modes of action a...
متن کاملMultimodal Pain Management Protocol Versus Patient Controlled Narcotic Analgesia for Postoperative Pain Control after Shoulder Arthroplasty
Background: Our institution’s traditional pain management strategy after shoulder arthroplasty has involved the utilization of postoperative patient-controlled narcotic analgesia. More recently, we have implemented a protocol (TLC) that utilizes a multimodal approach. The purpose of this study was to determine whether this change has improved pain control and decreased narcotic utilization. ...

Methods: This double blind clinical trial was conducted on >18 years old renal colic patients in need of pain management in emer...
متن کاملNefopam analgesia and its role in multimodal analgesia: A review of preclinical and clinical studies.
Nefopam is a non-opioid, non-steroidal, centrally acting analgesic drug used to prevent postoperative pain, primarily in the context of multimodal analgesia. This paper reviews preclinical and clinical studies in which nefopam has been combined with opioids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory compounds, and paracetamol. This report focuses on the literature during the last decade and discusses the...
